Book Tropes // The Ones I Love

Hi Friends,
There are so many book tropes out there that I just love. Sure, there are ones that I am not a fan of, or I think they are over done. But, I pretty much enjoy a lot of common book tropes. I am such a basic reader. Anyhow, I thought it would be fun to share my favorite book tropes with you all.

Enemies-to-Lovers: This has to be my favorite trope of all. There is just something about to rivals that fall in love. I have never actually seen this play out in real life, and don’t really think it is a normal thing. However, in books, it works so well. At least it does most of the time. I’ve read a few books where the characters weren’t true enemies, or the relationship just didn’t work well. Still, despite being predictable, one of my favorite enemies-to-lovers is ‘P.S. I Like You‘ by Kasie West.

Bad Girl, Gone Good: I am not sure if this is a typical trope, or a trope at all. Yet, I enjoy books were there is a bitchy/mean girl character that changes for the better. Think Regina George becoming Lizzie McGuire. Okay, that might not be the best explanation for this trope, but I think you get what I mean. ‘If I’m Being Honest‘ by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley is the perfect example of how to do this trope right. The book is one actually one of my favorite reads of 2021.

Fake Dating: I think that almost every romance reader can attest to the fact that this is one of the best tropes in books. For some reason, I cannot get enough of fake relationships. There is something adorable about a fake relationship, or relationship of convenience turning into something real. Instead of recommending one of my favorite, well known, fake dating stories, I will share one that I’m hoping to read, ‘The Upside of Falling‘ by Alex Light. This is from a Wattpad author and sounds like a sweet YA contemporary.

Forced Proximity: Every since I was a kid, plots where the characters are trapped somewhere always interested me. And, I am not talking about horror stories. When I think of this trope, the Dawson’s Creek episode when Pacey and Joey get stuck in a K-Mart always comes to mind. I believe that I have only ever read one stuck together book, but it was very enjoyable. The book was ‘By Your Side‘ by Kasie West in which a boy and girl get locked inside a library. How could a reader not love this plot?

Friends-to-Lovers: I was hesitant to put this on the list, because I am not sure of my feeling on the trope. I use to think I wasn’t a fan of friends-to-lovers stories, but my opinion of them has changed. Don’t get me wrong, it still isn’t an all time favorite trope of mine, but it is growing on me. After reading ‘How Not To Fall In Love‘ by Jacqueline Firkins, I can see myself reading more books with this trope in the future.

Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Book Tag

Hi Friends,
Today, I am doing a Valentine’s Day inspired book tag! I wouldn’t say that I’m a V-Day fan, but I don’t hate the holiday either. Chocolate and flowers are nice, and YA contemporary is my favorite book genre. The tag that I will be doing is the ‘Valentine’s Day Sweetheart’ Book Tag, created by Pampered Pages.


What is your favorite Valentine’s Day-themed candy?
This is probably the most boring answer, but Reese’s hearts. I don’t normally like peanut butter, but I do like a good Reese’s.


Do you enjoy reading romance?
Yes! I love YA romances the most, but lately I have become a fan of adult romances as well. There is nothing like an adorable and over-the-top fictional romance.

Do you tend to read romance books throughout the Valentine’s Day season?
Not really, I am kind of a mood/planned reader. I am a seasonal reader at times, but with contemporaries being my favorite genre I read them all throughout the year despite the holiday.

Your fictional sweetheart shows up at your door with a Valentine’s Day gift. What is it?
The most romantic gift would be a love note or a song the especially wrote for me. I don’t need shiny things, because I’d marry my true love with paper rings.


How many romance books do you have that are written by the same author?
I have no idea at all, but I do have a few Jenny Han, Kasie West and Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka books.

What is a romance book that made you cry?
Five Feet Apart by Mikki Daughtry, Rachael Lippincott, and Tobias Iacon! It was my favorite book of 2021, and it broke my heart.


If you could choose any place (fictional or real) to escape to for a Valentine’s Day date with your sweetheart, where would you like to go?
I want to go somewhere snowy, like to a cabin in the snowy mountains. Somewhere I can go ice skating, make a snowman, or curl up by a fire and read.

Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder: What anticipated book release do you know in your heart you will absolutely love?
Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley’s 2022 release ‘With and Without You’, which is a YA romance about a long distance relationship. This touches my heart already, because my husband and I were in a long distance relationship at first.

Do you have any favorite love-themed quotes from any of the books you have read?

All’s Fair In Love And War: Do you have more books with red or pink spines?
Definitely a pink spines. I don’t know if I have any books with a red spine.

April 2021 // Reading Wrap-Up

Hello Book Lovers,
In the month of April, I read 4 books total. I am happy with that number, since I did take a small week-long reading break during the month. I feel like most of the books I have read haven’t amazed me. I don’t feel like I am a hash book rater at all, still a lot of the books have simply been 3 star reads for me. Also, I want to note that whatever I rate about doesn’t mean it is at all bad. Book ratings are all personal opinions.

If I’m Being Honest by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley: 5.0/5.0 Stars
Incredible! I was going to dnf this book, but I am glad I stuck with it. It is a new favorite of mine.

Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston: 3.5/5.0 Stars
This is a cute contemporary retelling, but not standout in my opinion.

They Wish They Were Us by Jessica Goodman: 3.0/5.0 Stars
I have mixed feelings about this book. I didn’t love it, didn’t hate. It was okay.

Time Of Our Lives by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley: 3.0/5.0 stars
Of course, I had to pick up another book by this author duo. Unfortunately, this one was a bit of a let down.

As always I will be doing reviews for each book, so that I can share my complete thoughts on them. I was very happy to have read a five-star read, but I feel as though the rest of the books put me in a small reading slump at the end of the month. Book Review: Geekerella by Ashley Poston

When I picked up this book I didn’t know much about it besides that it was a Cinderella retelling. I am not the biggest Cinderella fan, but I had heard good things about this book. Also, I am a sucker for retellings of all kinds. This is the first in a series of companion books, which means each book follows different characters that are connected. I was obsessed with this story from the start and couldn’t put it down, which makes for a great reading.

I liked reading about Elle and how she felt out-of-place within her family after her father’s death. She wasn’t a brat or negative despite her circumstances. I understand that she had a hard time letting people in since she has been hurt before. It was nice to see her passion for Starfield and the connection she had with it because of her parents. Also, Her being a blogger made me smile.

“Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite.”

The love interest of Darien was great, and he was probably my favorite character. He was so naïve and kind, yet charming at the same time. He didn’t let his fame consume him and had his own personal struggles. It found his text messaging relationship with Elle very cute, because they got to know each other on a deeper level. Honestly, it reminded me a little of how I met my husband, thank you Tumblr.

I enjoyed the side characters in the book as well, and I liked the friendship that blossomed between Elle and her co-worker, Sage. The story showed that people shouldn’t be judge by who they are, and we are never really alone even if it feels that way sometimes.

I wouldn’t call this one of my new favorite books, but I did enjoy it and looking forward to reading the author’s other works.
