Gilmore Girls 2024 Readathon | Days 7 & 8 Highlights

Hi Friends,
Here are my updates for days 7 and 8 of the Gilmore Girls readathon! I actually read a new favorite book during these past two days, which is awesome! So, I’d say the readathon is going very well.

Day 7: October 13, 2024

Morning Update: I had a surprise awakening by one of my dogs, who somehow got into the bedroom and jumped on me and my husband. After taking care of the pets, I went outside with some coffee and enjoyed the cooler weather we had this morning. It’s beginning to feel a little like fall.

Afternoon Update: I continued reading ‘Daisy Darker‘, and it just keeps getting better. I really love the isolated setting and plot. I uploaded a fun BookTok video and a Bookstagram post. I also did some online shopping because sometimes you need a little retail therapy.

Evening Wrap-Up: My husband and I decided to watch a movie, and what better film to watch this time of year than Halloweentown? It reminds me so much of my childhood, even if the ending scene is a bit cheesy now that I’m older. I finished the night off by reading and was able to get to the 70% mark, which was past my reading goal for the day.

Day 8: October 14, 2024

Morning Update: I woke up and once again did my normal morning routine. I got ready for the day and had some breakfast. I decided to finish my book and binged the last 30%. Let me just say, it was amazing!

Afternoon Update: Then I started cleaning for the day. I did a deep clean of the house, so I wasn’t able to read much. I finished off the afternoon by doing some yoga and making dinner.

Evening Wrap-Up: I decided to start my next book, which is the group book for the readathon, ‘The Pumpkin Spice Café‘. I flew through the first half and, by the time I went to sleep, I had gotten 50% into it.

Gilmore Girls 2024 Readathon | Days 5 & 6 Highlights

Hi Friends,
I’m back with my updates for days 5 and 6 of the Gilmore Girls readathon! I’m having such a great time, but I’m nervous that I’m falling behind on the prompts. I don’t think I’ll get to as many books as I had hoped, but that’s fine by me.

Day 5: October 11, 2024

Morning Update: This morning, I had a lovely breakfast of homemade biscuits and watched the horror movie Scream 2. I listened to a chapter of ‘Given Our History‘ while taking the dogs out but didn’t get much further into it.

Afternoon Update: This afternoon, I had to run more errands, so while I was out, I got the chance to stop by Spirit Halloween. I was lucky enough to find my husband’s anniversary gift while I was there. In case you were wondering, we got married on Halloween. I also stopped by Starbucks today, and yes, I am all too aware of how often I get coffee out.

Evening Wrap-Up: I ended the night with some yoga and by scheduling my blog post for the following day. I was finally able to get some reading done and flew through the rest of ‘Given Our History’. I still need to gather my thoughts and write the review, but I really enjoyed the story and characters.

Day 6: October 12, 2024

Morning Update: This morning, I slept in until 9 a.m., which is very unusual for me. I woke up, had a delicious breakfast of French toast, and watched Casper. I didn’t get around to starting my book because I decided to take the morning easy.

Afternoon Update: I went out with my mom this afternoon, but besides that, I didn’t do much of anything. I spent most of the day mindlessly scrolling on social media and watching clips of Faking It on YouTube, which is crazy since that show aired years ago and I didn’t even watch it when it was on.

Evening Wrap-Up: I started a new book before I went to bed. I decided to read ‘Daisy Darker‘ by Alice Feeney. I got 15% into it, and let me just say that this book has me instantly hooked! I also love that it takes place on Halloween.

I feel like this update was a bit boring, but hopefully, you’re still enjoying these brief insights into my days. Honestly, they are all pretty much the same. Gilmore Girls Characters | Book Recommendations

Hi Friends,
I’m back with another book recommendations for characters post! I’ve done this type of post twice before—once for Disney Princesses and another for Barbie. This time, I’m giving book recommendations to some characters from my favorite TV show, Gilmore Girls.

Lorelai Gilmore
Although she was never the biggest reader, I think ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died‘ by Jennette McCurdy would really interest her. For one, it’s a memoir, which seems like a genre she’d gravitate toward. It’s also about Jennette’s strained relationship with her mother, something Lorelai is all too familiar with. Plus, I’ve heard it is somewhat of a dark comedy. Everything about this book makes it the perfect read for Lorelai.

Rory Gilmore
This was a tough one because, as most fans know, Rory is a major book lover. She enjoys both newer books and the classics, which is why I think ‘What Moves The Dead‘ by T. Kingfisher would be something she’d really enjoy. Not only does it have a very intriguing plot, but it’s a retelling of ‘The Fall of the House of Usher‘ by Edgar Allan Poe. I’m sure, being a huge reader, she has read and probably enjoyed the original story, so a reimagining would be a great recommendation for her. Plus, we all remember the Poe Society episode of the show, making this recommendation even more fitting.

Lane Kim
This is probably the most obvious choice, but ‘Daisy Jones & The Six‘ by Taylor Jenkins Reid is a book that Lane would absolutely read and most likely give 5 stars. It’s all about a 70s rock band and the struggles that come with fame. There’s drama, love, addiction, and most importantly, music. I could completely see her being so in love with the story that she’d be Daisy Jones for Halloween.

Paris Geller
Let’s face it, Paris is all about academics, and I feel like she’d want some sort of academic aspect to her books. This makes ‘Lessons in Chemistry‘ by Bonnie Garmus a wonderful book recommendation for her. The plot is about women in science in the 1950s, but there are many more layers to the story. Someone described it as a feminist manifesto. Paris literally wrote her own manifesto and is 100% a feminist. Need I say more?

Luke Danes
I’m not sold on the idea that Luke Danes would actually take the time to read a book, but he did manage to listen to a self-help book. So, maybe audiobooks are something he’d give a try. If that’s the case, I’d say he should pick up ‘A Man Called Ove‘ by Fredrik Backman. This book gives off Luke mixed with Taylor Doose vibes. Essentially, it follows a grumpy but lovable old man who forms an unexpected friendship with his new neighbors. I have heard that this story is about grief, love, and contains some dark humor. If there was any type of fiction book that the character of Luke might relate to, I’d bet it would be this one.

Gilmore Girls 2024 Readathon | Days 3 & 4 Highlights

Hi Friends,
Here are my reading updates for Days 3 and 4 of the Gilmore Girls 2024 Readathon! I want to mention that these two days weren’t the best for me in terms of mental health, so my updates might not be very exciting. Still, I wanted to share how the readathon is going and remind you that it’s okay not to feel okay all the time.

Day 3: October 9, 2024

Morning Update: My mornings are typically the same, so I won’t bore you with the details. However, I did need to make sure my blog post, Days 1 & 2 Highlights, went live. I was feeling really sad this morning, so I tried to relax. Still, I wanted to finish my book, and I did just that. I have some thoughts on it. While I’m not the biggest fan of B.K. Borison’s writing style, I did enjoy the plot a lot. As always, I will post a full review of the book on the blog.

Afternoon Update: I wanted to choose my next read and decided to go with a book that would check off a few prompts. I ended up picking ‘Given Our History‘ by Kristyn J. Miller, which I hadn’t realized even had an audiobook version. I tried to do some reading, but I couldn’t focus much, so I took a nap. What was meant to be a short nap turned into a two-hour one, and my afternoon kind of got away from me.

Evening Wrap-Up: After waking up, feeding the pets, and making dinner, I finally got some reading in. I am only 10% into the book, but I am loving it! Before turning in for the night, my husband and I ended up watching a few ‘Treehouse of Horror’ episodes of The Simpsons.

Day 4: October 10, 2024

Morning Update: This morning was kind of crazy, and I felt like it flew by. I honestly cannot remember what I spent my morning doing because by the time I finished my morning routine and boring household chores, it was almost noon. Needless to say, I didn’t get a chance to read.

Afternoon Update: I had to run some errands, so I decided to treat myself to an afternoon coffee from Starbucks. This time, I got the iced version of my usual drink but added non-dairy cold foam on top. I’m unsure how I feel about it. While I was out, I ended up posting a TikTok video. When I got home, I wrote a blog post, then worked out and watched some BookTube videos.

Evening Wrap-Up: I ended the night by binge-reading my book, and let’s just say it was a real struggle to put down. I’ve reached the 50% mark, and the plot is so good. I’m not sure if much is actually happening, but I’m really enjoying it.

I know these past two day’s updates weren’t the most exciting, but sometimes my days are pretty normal. Gilmore Girls 2024 Readathon | Days 1 & 2 Highlights

Hi Friends,
Get ready to get cozy and read like a Gilmore—well, at least like Rory Gilmore! This is my first reading update for the Gilmore Girls 2024 Readathon. In this post, I’ll be talking about the first two days of the readathon because I couldn’t commit to daily updates this time around. Before you continue, feel free to check out my Gilmore Girls Readathon TBR to remind yourself of the books I’ll be reading.

Day 1: October 7, 2024

Morning Update: I started my morning off with a cup of coffee, like the Gilmore Girl I am, and grabbed the book ‘Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice‘. I read up until chapter 6, but unfortunately, I wasn’t loving the book. The story wasn’t captivating me, and the writing and characters felt too young. I’ve been having this problem a lot lately when it comes to YA books.

Afternoon Update: I did some cleaning and even watched a horror movie, because, sadly, the book just wasn’t giving me the Gilmore Girl vibes it promised. I also worked on some posts for my blog. I tried picking the book back up again and only got halfway through chapter 6 before realizing it was going to be a DNF for me. I know that might seem a little early to DNF a book, but I can already tell it was not going to be for me.

Evening Wrap-Up: I decided to pick up my next book—or technically, my first book of the readathon—before bed and get some reading in. I chose ‘Business Casual’ by B.K. Borison since it fits multiple prompts, so even if I don’t get to as many books as I’d like during the readathon, this book will still help me clear the bingo board. I was only able to read the first chapter, but I did enjoy it.

Day 2: October 8, 2024

Morning Update: Unfortunately, I didn’t get the best night’s sleep and was up at 2:30 a.m. I didn’t fall back asleep until 5 a.m. I woke up at eight and did my normal morning routine—fed the dogs, washed my face, brushed my teeth, changed into workout attire, and ate breakfast. I didn’t get a chance to continue my book this morning because it was kind of chaotic.

Afternoon Update: I went out and grabbed an afternoon Starbucks with my mom and sister! My go-to drink is a hot non-fat half-caf white mocha with an extra pump and whip. Then I started deep cleaning certain areas while listening to more of ‘Business Casual‘. Let’s just say that this is one fast-paced book, and by the time I was done cleaning, I had made it to 50% of the book.

Evening Wrap-Up: I finished off the night by doing some blog work and watching the movie Scream. Honestly, the first three movies in that trilogy will always be the superior ones in the franchise. Time kind of got away from me, so I didn’t end up reading any more of my book.

Fall Starter Kit | Movies, Books And More

Hi Friends,
The leaves are changing, and the weather is finally getting cooler. Okay, 80 degrees might not seem like a big cool-down, but it’s better than the 90+ degree days we’ve been having. Despite the temperature, fall is here, and I wanted to give you my fall starter guide—from movies to books and all things cozy!


You’ve Got Mail: In full transparency, I’m not a huge fan of this movie, but it’s one of my mom’s favorite movies, and it is the perfect movie to help you get in the fall mood. Not only is it an enemies-to-lovers romance with secret email pals, but it also takes place in New York—and there’s a bookstore! Could there be a more fall-ish movie?

Practical Magic: This is another one of my mom’s favorite movies. Can you tell I’m a mommy’s girl? This movie will put you in the mood to don a witch’s hat and make midnight margaritas. I think this is the perfect watch for those wanting a tamer spooky vibe for the fall. Although it has some witchy, creepy parts, at its core the film is about the bond of sisterhood and love.

The Artful Dodger: This Hulu original series takes place in the 1850s, following the famous Charles Dickens character Dodger. I haven’t watched it yet, but it’s high on my list this fall. I’ve heard great things about it, and it’s supposed to be a fantastic show to binge during autumn.

Gilmore Girls: Would this even be a fall starter guide if I didn’t mention Gilmore Girls? My personal favorite seasons are 1 through 3, but the entire series, despite its many flaws, is amazing. I don’t think there’s another show that embodies fall more perfectly.


Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
This book is a classic for a reason! I loved the plot, characters, and ending. It’s a story about four sisters who face the challenges of growing up, love, and loss. Although it doesn’t take place solely in the fall, the timelessness and cozy atmosphere make it a great autumn read.

Shady Hollow by Juneau Black
This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. There’s just something about a town full of talking animals where murders happen that screams fall. Also, why does every small town that screams autumn have “Hollow” in the name? This series is such a cozy and fast read, with mysteries that aren’t too intense or complex—almost like a Scooby-Doo episode.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
For me, it’s not fall until you read a vampire book. Sure, there are the classic vampire stories, but something about Twilight takes me back to my teenage years. The atmosphere in this book makes it perfect for October. Let’s face it—Forks seems like the perfect place to visit during the fall.

Below, I’ve put together my autumn playlist! These are songs that I listen to every fall. And, truth be told, Safe and Sound will always be my number one Taylor Swift song because of the fall memories attached to it.

Autumn Essentials

Candles: Where are all my scented candle lovers? Because you can’t have a cozy fall night without a candle burning, right? I love apple and cinnamon scents in the fall, so I was thrilled to find a four-pack of candles with some of my favorite fall scents on Amazon [Here].

Seasonal Tea: Truth be told, I’m not much of a tea drinker, but my sister is a huge fan. During the autumn season (or holidays in general), she loves to try out seasonal tea flavors. There’s a set from The Republic of Tea that includes cranberry, apple cider, and pumpkin-flavored teas. Could tea get any more fall?

Fuzzy Socks: What better way to complete your autumn starter kit than with some fuzzy socks? Who doesn’t love a warm pair of socks on a cool fall evening? They really help you feel cozy, even on nights when the weather is a little warmer.

Gilmore Girl Readathon | To Be Read

Hi Friends,
Today I’m sharing my Gilmore Girls Readathon TBR. If you haven’t already seen my announcement post for the readathon, I definitely recommend checking it out (read here). To give you a brief rundown, the readathon will take place from October 7 to October 21. There’s a bingo board with 12 bookish prompts and four non-bookish prompts. I’m going to try and clear the board, and to make it even more challenging, I’ll be reading a different book for each prompt. Let’s jump right into the books I’ll be reading.

Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice by Katie Cicatelli-Kuc
Not only does the synopsis say this book is perfect for fans of Gilmore Girls, but it’s also set in a charming village in New England. I’m interpreting “village” as a small town. Plus, the title Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice is so fall-coded. I can’t wait to read this story. I’m a little hesitant because it’s a YA novel, which isn’t a genre I’ve been gravitating toward lately, but it does involve coffee and I’m a coffee addict.

Maybe Meant To Be by K.L. Walters
This book takes place at Bexley School and follows best friends Sage and Charlie, who everyone assumes are destined to be together. The cover gives me fall vibes, and I’ve loved pretty much every book I’ve read by this author. I’m anticipating this will be a four or five star read.

Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney
This was a harder prompt for me, but I decided to go with Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney. It’s an adult mystery thriller inspired by Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. The story revolves around a complicated family who are isolated together, with a killer among them. I don’t think there’s another book on my shelves that fits this prompt as perfectly as this one.

Funny Feelings by Tarah DeWitt
I had quite a few options for this prompt, but I’m trying to stick with cozy fall vibes since that’s what Gilmore Girls embodies for me. This is a single dad romance where he’s her manager and she’s a stand-up comedian. I’ve never read anything by this author, but I’ve been loving single parent romances lately.

A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley
For this prompt, I picked a book that I’m really excited to read. Not only does it work for the readathon, but it also matches the witchy vibes of October. I don’t know much about it except that it’s a cozy fantasy fake-dating romance.

Business Casual by BK Borison
This is the last book in the Lovelight Farms small-town romance series. Each book in the series is set during a specific season, and this one takes place in the autumn. So, of course, October is the perfect time to read it! The last two books I read from this series had dual perspectives, so I’m assuming this one will as well. If not, I’ll switch it out with another book.

Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
This is another book I cannot wait to dive into! Even though the hardback version doesn’t have leaves on the cover, my copy—the Barnes and Noble exclusive paperback edition—certainly does. I read the first book in this series earlier this year, so I’m happy to be making progress on a series I’ve already started. This is a cozy fantasy series, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to finish the book fairly quickly.

The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore
Honestly, everyone is talking about how good this book is and how it’s very Gilmore Girls-inspired. I don’t know much about the plot except that it’s a small-town spicy romance, but I’m excited to read it for the readathon.

A Winter in New York by Josie Silver
Winter is my favorite season, so I had to pick a book that screamed wintertime to me. That’s why I chose a book with “winter” literally in the title. I’m hoping to love this book! All I know is that there’s a secret family recipe and a romance, but I think it’ll be a really cute read with some depth to the plot and characters.

The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose
Of course, I have to include a thriller on my TBR. The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose is being adapted into a movie. I believe Netflix is behind it, but I’m not entirely sure which streaming platform will be making the film. Still, this is a book I’ve wanted to read for a while, and I’m glad I will finally, hopefully, be getting to it.

A Dark and Drowning Tide by Allison Saft
I had a few books that fit this prompt, but this one seemed like it was made for a Gilmore Girls readathon since the main character’s name is Lorelei. This is a dark academia novel involving murder and an expedition. It seems like it will fit well with the spooky season, so I’m looking forward to it.

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
Lastly, I have to finish a series I’m in the middle of, and what better time than spooky season to complete the Twilight saga? The final book was released in 2008, so it fits the prompt perfectly. I’ll definitely be rewatching the movies this month, making it an easy choice.

6 Romance Books I’ll Fall In Love With

September 28th marked 20 years since Jesse McCartney’s Beautiful Soul album was released. While the Internet lists various dates for the album’s release, Jesse himself confirmed that it was released on September 28, 2004. Back in the day, my sister and I loved the show Summerland, and when I was thirteen, I attended one of Jesse McCartney’s very first concerts. In honor of the 20th anniversary, I decided to share six romances that I’m pretty sure I will love!


This Spells Love By Kate Robb
“A young woman tries to heal her heartbreak by casting a spell to erase her ex from her past, but she wakes up in an alternate reality where she’s lost more than she wished for in this witty, whimsical friends-to-lovers debut.”

This magical realism romcom sounds perfect for me; everything about the premise is right up my alley.

The Nanny By Lana Ferguson
“A woman discovers the father of the child she is nannying may be her biggest (Only)Fan in this steamy contemporary romance by Lana Ferguson.”

Give me a single-dad romance with spice, and I’ll be happy! I also believe this is an age-gap romance, which has been one of my favorite tropes lately.

Delilah Green Doesn’t Care By Ashley Herring Blake
“A clever and steamy queer romantic comedy about taking chances and accepting love—with all its complications—from the author of Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail.”

I’m not sure where I first heard about this book, but it’s been on my radar for the past year. I know it’s a favorite sapphic romance for many, and it apparently features the one-bed trope.


The Comeback By Lily Chu
“Who is Ariadne Hui? Laser-focused lawyer diligently climbing the corporate ladder? The “perfect” daughter living out her father’s dream? Shocking love interest of South Korea’s hottest star?”

I previously read a book by this author that I gave five stars, so I’m hopeful I’ll love this one too. It is a celebrity-regular person romance, which is a plot that I’ve enjoyed before.

The Love of My Afterlife By Kirsty Greenwood
“A recently deceased woman meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room, scoring a second chance at life (and love!) if she can find him on earth before ten days are up.”

This book became popular out of nowhere, and it’s another cute magical realism adult romance. As you can tell, magical realism has become one of my favorite genres, and I’m curious about all the hype surrounding this book.

Love in the Time of Serial Killers By Alicia Thompson
“Turns out that reading nothing but true crime isn’t exactly conducive to modern dating—and one woman is going to have to learn how to give love a chance when she’s used to suspecting the worst.”

I’ve heard mixed things about this book, but the synopsis and title make me think it’ll be a cheesy, silly Hallmark movie and I don’t mind that at all. Some of my favorite romances have that feel-good vibe!

3 Banned Books To Add To Your TBR

Hi Friends,
Happy Banned Books Week! I want to start by saying that I don’t support banning or challenging books in any way. Just because a book touches on a sensitive topic or doesn’t end with a happily ever after doesn’t mean it should be banned. There’s definitely a place for those stories in literature, and no reader should miss out on them. Everyone deserves the freedom to choose what they want to read, and no author should face silencing.

Thanks for letting me hop on my little soapbox for Banned Books Week! Now, I’d love to share a few banned and challenged books that are on my TBR.

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
I have both this book and the prequel, ‘The First to Die at the End‘, on my TBR. It combines sci-fi and dystopian elements in a world where you receive a call the day before you die. An app called Last Friend helps you find someone to spend your last day with. I believe it also features an LGBTQ+ romance. Just from the title, I can tell this book is going to break my heart.

Scythe by Neal Shusterman
This dystopian novel hasn’t been banned, but people have challenged it because its main theme revolves around death. The story takes place in a world where people no longer die naturally, so Scythes train to control the population by deciding who lives and who dies. I might be a bit off on the synopsis, but that’s the general idea. It sounds like a fascinating series, and I know it’s hugely popular.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
I’ve had this one on my TBR for years, so I’m not sure when I’ll actually get to it, and I don’t know the full plot. From what I gather, it follows two teenagers in the 1980s, and I think it’s a love story. I’ve heard it’s a YA contemporary that explores love and coming-of-age, and people really hyped it up when it first came out.

As readers, we need to stand up against those who try to silence authors by supporting their work and sharing why banning books is wrong. One of my favorite books, ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ by J.D. Salinger, is banned, and I think that’s absolutely ridiculous. If you haven’t read it yet, you’re missing out on an amazing story!
