Rory Gilmore | Halloween Costume

Hi Friends,
Let’s face it, Rory Gilmore is the ultimate reader and fall girl. Her style is casual yet put together, with effortless hair and minimal makeup. So this Halloween, dressing up as Rory Gilmore is not only a super simple costume but also perfect for any book lover. Here, you’ll find everything you’ll need to help you nail the Rory Gilmore look, ensuring your Halloween costume is on point.

The Outfit
I wanted to keep this outfit simple, something Gilmore Girls fans could easily spot as Rory Gilmore-approved. The chunky white sweater has become known as the Rory sweater. Honestly, besides her Chilton uniform, it’s probably her most memorable fashion item from the show. Rory is such a casual girl, so throw on a pair of jeans and add some suede ankle boots—since let’s face it, she and Lorelai wore a lot of boots. Don’t forget to add a backpack to help complete the look and store your costume props, like a book!

The Hair
Let’s be real—her hair wasn’t the most stylish part of her look. She kept it simple and natural most of the time. However, I think her bangs were pretty iconic. A style I noticed her wearing a lot in the earlier seasons was straight hair with two tiny French braids on either side. Later in the show, especially during the college seasons, she embraced her naturally wavy hair or styled loose curls, pinning the sides back while leaving some pieces out to frame her face.

The Makeup
Right before she went off to Yale, Rory complained about having so many beauty products, but she really kept her makeup minimal. To achieve her look, remember to let your natural beauty shine through, ensuring that your focus is on creating a flawless, matte base.

For her eyes, she kept things easy, sticking to brown and skin-tone shades, and using brown eyeliner. She lined her top lash line and only the outer corner of her bottom lash line. She also wore mascara, and her blush was always a rosy pink shade. As for her lips, she was clearly a gloss girl, tending to wear nude or light pink shades.

Like I mentioned earlier, no Rory Gilmore costume would be complete without a book, so don’t forget to carry one around—maybe even a Luke’s coffee cup! To really sell the costume, throw out a few classic Gilmore Girls quotes! My favorites are “Oy with the poodles already” and “In omnia paratus.”

Violet Beauregarde | Halloween Tutorial

Hi Friends,
The spooky season has begun, and I’m back with another Halloween makeup tutorial! Today’s look is inspired by Violet from ‘Charlie And the Chocolate Factory‘. I wanted to keep this one simple, so I created a look that can be done last minute. If you’re in need of a quick Halloween costume, this tutorial will help. I think it turned out pretty well, and I hope you do too!

Base
You can start by doing your everyday primer, foundation, concealer, and setting powder routine. For the cheeks, aim for a very glowy and rosy look. The Tarte face palette I used is unfortunately discontinued, but I recommend the e.l.f. Primer Infused Blush in Always Vibrant and the Revolution Beauty Reloaded Pressed Powder Highlighter in Make an Impact.

Eyes
I used a combination of shades from the Urban Decay Naked palette, which has also been discontinued, but you can use the Naked Reloaded palette as a substitute. Apply the shade Bucked in the crease and Angel Fire all over the lid. To add a pop of purple, I used the shade Filtered from the ColourPop Lilac You a Lot Shadow Palette in the crease. Make sure to blend everything together well. Finally, add black eyeliner to your top and bottom lash lines and finish with black mascara.

Special Effect
To get the “turning violet” effect, I used the ColourPop Lilac You a Lot Shadow Palette. I started at the nose and blended outward. You can go as far out as you’d like, but the goal is to look like you’re turning violet. I began with the shade Cloud, then layered a combination of Iffy and Filtered on top. I added a touch of Trainwreck to the nose and blended the edges with Imagine That.

Lips
For the lips, I used Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Va Va Violet, which I thought suited the look best. However, a more natural or pink-toned lipstick would work just as well!

If you recreate the look, please leave a comment and let me know! And if you’re into Halloween or book-themed makeup looks, don’t forget to like, share, and follow!

Lovelight Farms // Books Meets Beauty

Hi Friends,
I love doing posts that combined some of my other loves with books, which is exactly what we are doing for day 10 of Bookmas. Therefore, I hope you enjoy this holiday edition of “Books Meets Beauty.” I took inspiration from the book ‘Lovelight Farms’ by BK Borodin.

For the look, I did my normal foundation routine but went for a rose cheek and champagne highlight using the Relove by Revolution Colour Play Blush & Highlighter Cute Duo. My eye look was 100% inspired by the book’s cover. The palette I used was Too Faced ‘Christmas Coffee,’ which was unfortunately discontinued. I pulled in brown, green, and red, and I think that the color combination really embodied the book cover. Lastly, I used the Revlon lipstick ‘Cherries In The Snow,’ which happens to be a favorite of mine for the winter time.

In my opinion, this makeup look replicates the book’s cover perfectly. If you like posts that bring books and beauty together, you should give my blog a follow before you go.

My Fall Makeup Bag // Toss-Up Tuesday

Hi Friends,
In today’s post, I am going to talk about what is in my makeup bag, and the beauty products that I like to use in the fall. I would not say that I am a huge makeup girlie, but I do find that makeup makes me feel more confident. Also, I am not going to mention things like foundation, concealer, setting powder, or mascara because those products do not typically change from season to season.

Blush

The blushes I enjoy in the fall are usually red or berry colors. One of my favorites is the MAC Cosmetics blush in ‘Burnt Pepper, ’ which is a beautiful, deep matte red shade. Another great fall blush in my makeup bag that I find to be a similar to the MAC one, but a bit more shimmery, is ‘Brick Red’ by e.l.f. Cosmetics. These are the two blushes I am always reaching for in the fall.

Bronzer

My go-to-fall bronzer is the Too Faced ‘Chocolate Soleil’ Matte Bronzer in medium/deep. However, currently in my fall makeup bag, I have an e.l.f. Cosmetics Halo Glow Contour in fair/light. It is a new product that I am testing.

Highlighter

This is probably my absolute favorite beauty product, so I have a lot to choose from. In the fall, I like to go for a more white highlighter. The two currently in my makeup bag are the e.l.f. Halo Glow Highlighter in ‘Rose Quartz.’ The other is the I Heart Revolution Disney Cinderella Highlighter in ‘Just Before Midnight.’

Face Palette

I have a ton of face palettes, but the one that I keep in my fall makeup bag is the Makeup Revolution The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Face Palette Spooktacular. There is no better face palette that I could have chosen for the fall time.

Eyeshadow Palette

I am no longer really an eyeshadow wearer, but I love a good seasonal eyeshadow palette. In my fall makeup bag, I have my ColourPop cosmetics original ‘Hocus Pocus’ palette. The colors are so pretty, and you can create a perfect fall-eye look with just this one palette.

Lipstick

As for lipstick, I have become more of a natural lip girl, but in my makeup bag, I have three that are perfect for this time of year. These are the three lipsticks released in the Makeup Revolution X Corpse Bride Collection. The colors represent Emily, Victor, and Victoria.

Hope you enjoyed getting a sneak peek into my makeup bag. I know that this was a different type of post from me, but I love sharing other parts of my personality besides my love of books. However, don’t worry, the book content is not going anywhere, so remember to follow the blog to get notified whenever there is a new post.

The Mistletoe Motive // Books Meet Beauty // Toss-Up Tuesday

Hi Friends,
It’s Bookmas Day 20! Today, I’m going to be doing another ‘Books Meet Beauty’ post. Here, I have created a makeup look inspired by a book cover. For this makeup look, the cover that I took inspiration from this time was ‘The Mistletoe Motive’ by Chloe Liese.

From what I’ve gathered, the book is a grumpy meets sunshine, enemies-to-lovers holiday romance. Although, I have yet to read this novella, I have heard that it’s a cute quick holiday adult contemporary.

Personally, I think that my makeup look matches the book cover pretty well. This cover might not seem very festive, but I love the muted, darker tones that were used. You do, however, still get a holiday vibe. In the comments, let me know you thoughts on the book, and the makeup look I created for it! I Heart Spring TAG 2022 // Toss-Up Tuesday

Hi Friends,
Spring is practically here! Although, this isn’t my favorite time of year I do love it when the seasons change. I thought that it would be fun to do a spring tag. This one is for the early days of YouTube and blogging it’s the “I Heart Spring” tag.

💋 Favorite spring nail polish?

I don’t have one nail polish that is my go-to in the spring time. I used to reach for pastel colors, but this spring I have been all about the bright neon shades. I would have to say my current favorite spring nail colors are orange and hot pink.

💋 What is your must-have lip color this spring?

I don’t branch out with my lip colors, yet I tend to play around with bold purple lipsticks in the spring. Honestly, I have no idea if this shade looks good on me, but I will still rock it.

💋 Show us your favorite spring dress!

I don’t think that I have one favorite spring dress, but more of a style of dress. I think that skater dresses are perfect for spring. I own a few that can be dressed up or down for all occasions. Also, they look great paired with a cardigan for those cooler spring days.

💋 What’s your favorite flower?

I am not a big flower person, so I don’t know many by name. I do like Lilies and Daisies.

💋 Favorite spring scarf/accessory?

I think that flower crowns are super cute to wear in the spring time. I would categorize them as hair accessories, which in my opinion counts. Yes, some might think they’re childish, or not for everyday use, but I think they make an outfit more stylish.

💋 What spring trend(s) are you most excited about this year? (Makeup, fashion or both!)

I read that colored lashes where the new trend for spring, and I am here for it. I don’t do many colorful eye looks, so colored mascara would be a cool way to add a pop to my makeup.

💋 Favorite spring candle?

As you probably guessed, my favorite candles are from Bath and Body Works. It was hard for me to pick a favorite, but I would have to say Peach Bellini. I am terrible at describing scents, so I am not even going to try. However, if you like fruity, sweet smells this one is perfect for you.

💋 Favorite body spray/perfume for spring?

The perfume that is my favorite in spring is the original Daisy by Marc Jacobs. I don’t buy a lot of higher end perfumes, yet I will never regret getting this one. The scent is very subtle and gives me spring vibes.

💋 What is spring like where you live?

I am going to guess that this question is about the weather. Where I live spring season is my least favorite time of year. We don’t have overly hot springs, or colder ones. The days usually stay within the 70s. However, May and June are tornado season for my state. I am super scared of tornadoes, which is why I dread spring time.

💋 What’s your favorite thing about spring?

I love the vibrancy of spring! This might be a weird answer, and hard for me to explain. I love that everything blooms and comes a live again in spring.

💋 Are you a spring cleaner?

Yes and no. In the past, I was not into spring cleaning at all. This year I am on a mission to spring clean and organize. I don’t know if I am going to stick to this plan, but I am going to try.

💋 Any plans for spring break or an upcoming vacation?

I don’t have any vacations planned for the spring, or this year in general. Although, I would like to travel more in the future. As of now, I will be spending the rest of spring at home with my hubby and pets.

These questions where a blast to answer! I tag all of you, so let me know in the comments if you do the tag. Don’t forget to like and share this post. Also, follow my blog to get notified whenever a new post goes up.

Start A Project-Pan // Toss-Up Tuesday

Hi Friends,
Should you start a project-pan? I always ask myself this question, since my makeup collection is pretty large. Most of my eye-shadow palettes have never been used before. If you are unaware of what a project pan actually is then let me fill you in. It is where you pick a selected number of beauty products, which can include makeup, hair and skincare items that you would like to use up by the years end.

Downsize Your Makeup Collection

Obviously the number one reason to start a project pan is to minimize your makeup collection. If you are anything like me you might have a ton of foundations or highlighters, or a ton of eyeshadow palettes. A project pan will slowly but surely help you downsize your makeup collection significantly.

Get Your Moneys Worth

Sometimes we forget that beauty products cost a lot, and have expiration dates. So, starting a project-pan will ensure that you get to some of the products that will be expiring soon. Or, even just the products that you haven’t even used.

Rediscover Your Makeup Collection

Remember that holy grail concealer, favorite dry shampoo. Participating in a project pan can help you get to know your products all over again. It might even give you the chance to fall back in love with some old favorite products.

Saves You Money

The whole point of a project pan is to downsize. By focusing on your own products you are less likely to buy any new beauty items. This will help you continue to add more products to an already overwhelming amount. And, it will make your bank account happy too.

Would You Recommend

Doing a project pan can give you a good sense of the type of beauty products you like. Also, you might find products that you would definitely repurchase in the future, and, or recommend to others.

These are some reasons to commit to a project pan, but if you are a minimalist when it comes to beauty products than just keep doing what you are doing. Before you go give my blog a follow, and leave a comment letting me know if you are doing a project-pan this year.

Until The Next Chapter,

Maybelline ‘Sky High’ Mascara Review // Toss-Up Tuesday

Hi Friends,
I wanted to try the ‘Sky High’ mascara from Maybelline, since everyone was raving about it a few months back. This product got popular do to TikTok, or at least I believe that is where all the hype began. I haven’t tried many Maybelline mascaras, but not for any particular reasons. I just find that Maybelline isn’t a brand that I necessarily buy from. But, let’s get on to the review! The mascara retails for around $9 (at Walmart), which is pretty comparable to other drugstore mascaras.

The mascara wand is very thin and long, and I was pleased with how much I enjoyed a smaller brush. I liked how much volume and length the mascara provided. It didn’t make my lashes spidery looking at all. I would say that this is more of a natural looking mascara. It doesn’t change your lashes drastically, and I think most people might find the product to be underwhelming. However, if you have naturally long and black lashes like me than it is a great everyday mascara.

Also, I enjoy the brush so much that I have been using it in other mascaras, which probably is silly. I personally think the hype is well deserved, and I would be interested to try more TikTok recommend products. Let me know your opinion on this product, and if you agree with the hype surrounding it. Please follow my blog for mainly bookish content and occasionally beauty posts like this one.
