However, I thought I’d share some books where music plays a major role in honor of the event. This list includes both books I’ve read and books on my to-read list.

The Labyrinth Of Lost And Found | Book Review

My Rating

I found this story imaginative and amazing. I’m not usually a fan of middle-grade books, but this one was awesome. The characters, plot, and world were all fantastic. There’s so much to this story, it’s hard to even explain. The book’s about Benjamiah Creek, a young boy who ends up in the magical land of Wreathenwold. He’s soon off on a wild, crazy adventure across the land with Elizabeth, who’s determined to find her brother, no matter what.

The characters Benjamiah and Elizabeth were likeable and well-developed. While their youth showed throughout the story, they never seemed immature. They were determined and strong, formed an incredible friendship. I adored seeing their relationship deepen as they embarked on a crazy adventure together.

I’m being completely serious when I say this plot was intense. Throughout the entire book, I found myself emotionally invested in the two characters. I really wanted things to go well for them, but sometimes it felt like they were always unlucky. I got so emotional listening to the audiobook that I had to pause it. Didn’t see that coming!

“Love is the very highest form of courage.”

The ending was so good; I wanted more! That author did an amazing job of creating this magical world. It wasn’t a perfect ending, but it answered a lot, particularly how Benjamiah wound up in Wreathenwold.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book! But, it might not be for younger readers. I’m an adult, and I still found parts of the story confusing because of its complexity. I would classify it as more of an upper middle-grade book. Though it’s long for a middle-grade novel, I’m still deeply invested in this series. I am so excited to read the sequel and discover what new adventure awaits these characters.

One Year At Ellsmere | Book Review

About The Book
Winning a scholarship to the esteemed Ellsmere Academy, studious thirteen-year-old Juniper anticipates a perfect academic environment. However, life at Ellsmere is less than perfect; she’s considered a “special project,” the school’s queen bee is trying to sabotage her, and there are rumors of a mythical beast living nearby.

This graphic novel was way better than I expected, especially since I didn’t know anything about it. Set in a boarding school, it follows Jun, a scholarship student, as she adapts to her new environment. The story really centers on Jun and her sweet and supportive roommate Cassie; their friendship is the best part.

This story explores bullying, empathy, and the value of real friends. Jun’s experiences at Elsmere Academy highlight the importance of being true to yourself and confronting bullies, which I think can really appeal to younger readers.

“I’m here to learn, not make friends.”

I finished it quickly, but it could’ve used more depth. Although beautiful, the artwork wasn’t unique or particularly memorable compared to other graphic novels I’ve read. Still, it has a satisfying ending that wraps everything up cleverly.

Overall, while well-written, the story’s themes and style may resonate most with middle-grade readers. A few personal preferences aside, it effectively conveys a heartwarming tale of courage and friendship. While this book wasn’t for me, I enjoyed reading it, and I think my younger self would have loved the plot.

Starling House | Book Review

About The Book
Starling House has captivated Opal since childhood. The chance to work there and create a brighter future for her brother was an offer she couldn’t decline. The closer Opal gets to Arthur, the owner of the house, the more she uncovers about Starling House’s dark history and her hometown’s hidden secrets.

My Rating

I expected this book to be a gripping gothic magical paranormal tale. Unfortunately, the book was quite slow and not engaging. The book description sounded great, but the story itself was boring. The book’s about Opal and her years-long obsession with the mysterious Starling House and what’s hidden inside.

Opal’s character, and the book’s slow pace, were my biggest problems. I wasn’t interested in her numerous family and personal issues. It was supposed to be a creepy Gothic story, but it only sort of was.

I would say that my issue isn’t fully with the book, but with the plot not meeting my expectations. I thought it would be more of a fantasy, but it wasn’t. However, the book did have some good points, such as Opal’s bond with her brother.

“I figure dreams are like stray cats, which go away if I quit feeding them.”

The romance in this book felt forced, and out of place. I didn’t see a spark between Opal and Arthur. I would have liked it better without the romance, which is saying something, because I usually love romance stories.

Overall, the last five chapters were the best part. That’s when things really got interesting. I didn’t think Starling House’s backstory would be so intense and dark. That being said, I still wasn’t a fan of the story, but everyone’s different. If the book sounded at all interesting to you, then give it a read.

As they grow closer, both struggle with their feelings, wondering if they can overcome their barriers and find something real together.

Buy 3, For 2 Sale | My Top Picks!

Hi Friends,
Amazon is having a buy three for the price of two book sale. I skipped the last book sale, but I posted about some books you should check out. I’m not sure if I’ll buy any myself, but here are some books you should grab while they’re on sale!

Quicksilver by Callie Hart
This romantasy is a huge hit on BookTok! It’s supposed to be full of action, witty banter, and an enemies-to-lovers romance. It started as an indie book, but now a traditional publisher put it out.

Sunrise On The Reaping by Suzanne Collins
This is the newest addition to The Hunger Games series. Everyone loves this book, and I can’t wait to read the original trilogy, so I don’t miss out. If you’re into dystopian books with action, adventure, and killer writing, snag this series while it’s on sale!

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
I didn’t love this story, but the twist at the end was awesome! If you’re interested in thrillers or have heard people talking about this one, it’s well worth picking up, especially with this deal.

Throne Of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Although I haven’t read any of SJM’s books, I’m aware of her immense popularity. Not only is the complete Throne of Glass box set discounted, but it’s also part of the three-for-two sale. I’ve heard this fantasy series about an assassin is a beloved favorite among book readers.

Off To The Races by Elsie Silver
I became an Elsie Silver fan after reading (and loving) her “Chestnut Springs” series. This is the first book in a new series that is, I believe, supposed to be read before Chestnut Springs. This is a small town ranch romance, and I believe the MMC is the FMC’s boss!

How To Survive Your Murder by Danielle Valentine
This book is perfect for fans of cheesy horror films. I love this campy slasher book and jumped at the chance to recommend it when I saw it on sale. If you love 90’s teen horror movies, you’ll adore this crazy, bloody, YA horror story that just so happens to take place on Halloween.

These are just a handful of the books I’d suggest adding to your Amazon cart before the sale is over. Show your support by liking this post and following the blog for more updates!

Audible’s 2-for-1 Sale | My Picks

Hi Friends,
Audible’s two-for-one credit sale for March ends today. Their monthly sale lets you get two audiobooks for the price of one credit. FYI, this sale is for Audible members only. I thought it would be helpful to share some audiobooks I would recommend getting on sale. Audiobook and book recommendation lovers, keep reading!

The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose
I read and enjoyed this mystery suspense novel. The ending was a total shocker, and I loved the writing style! A movie adaption and sequel are coming out, so now’s the time to read the book!
Related Post: You Shouldn’t Have Come Here | Book Review

Mister Magic by Kiersten White
This is such an underrated book! It blends mystery, thriller, and horror seamlessly. This thriller/horror is unlike any other, and you should definitely give it a chance.
Related Post: Mister Magic | Book Review

Happily Never After by Lynn Painter
I love Lynn Painter’s YA books, but I’m still searching for an adult book by her that I adore. Despite that, the book’s concept is, in my opinion, very unique. I find it to be a playfully cynical spin on romantic comedies. I recommend this book to those who dislike cheesy, Hallmark-style romances.
Related Post: Happily Never After | Book Review

Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams
In all honesty, this book was a huge disappointment. But I really think a lot of people will love this book. One of my favorite tropes is featured in the plot, a teacher-student dynamic where the MMC tutors the FMC in dating. And it’s a clean romance, which is not always easy to find.
Related Post: Practice Makes Perfect | Book Review

Three Holidays And A Wedding by Uzma Jalaluddin And Marissa Stapley
This Christmas novel I read last year was such a fun, different take on the typical holiday romcom. We’ve got Christmas, Hanukkah, and Ramadan in this book. This story’s about two girls, total opposites, who meet during the holidays and discover themselves and maybe even find love.
Related Post: Three Holidays And A Wedding | Book Review

Sally’s Lament by Mari Mancusi
I thought this retelling was awesome. This Twisted Tales book shows what would’ve happened if Sally, not Jack, found Christmas Town. I haven’t loved most of the Twisted Tales books I’ve read, but this one was actually really good. It was a cool twist on the original story.

Instagram Controls My Reading | Reading Diaries

Hi Friends,
I thought it would be fun to have my Instagram followers pick my reading for a week. I selected two books and made a poll with emojis that represented them. It was kinda strange not being in charge of what I read, but it was fun too!

Book #1: The Cinnamon Bun Book Store (Dream Harbor, #2) by Laurie Gilmore

So I started with adult contemporary romance because it’s an easy read. My two options were from different small-town romance series. For ‘The Cinnamon Bun Book Store’, I used book, heart, and doughnut emojis—since, to my disbelief, no cinnamon bun emoji exists! The next option was ‘Beg, Borrow, or Steal,’ represented by teacher, flower, and briefcase emojis. Although it was a close call, ‘The Cinnamon Bun Book Store’ came out on top.

25% Reading Update: This book follows Hazel, who runs the Cinnamon Bun book store. Early on, we find out she’s nearing 30 and feels she’s missed out on her youth. She notices some books in the stores have underlined passages. Noah, the local womanizer and fisherman, implies that this could be a sign for her to live a more exciting life. The plot grabbed me right away, and the writing is awesome. Hazel and Noah’s crushes on each other are no secret. I also really love how it’s a dual POV story.

50% Reading Update: I’m possibly enjoying this book more than the first in the series. I adore Noah and Hazel’s chemistry. Also, the spice is fantastic! However, I have some problems with the plot. I wish they’d just admit they like each other! It’s so obvious, yet they’re clueless.

Final Thoughts (100%): This was a super cute and spicy read! You don’t have to read the first book in the series to enjoy this one. You can definitely read these books out of order, if you ask me. I loved this story even more than the first; I’m excited to read more books in this series.

Book #2: Spark Of The Everflame by Penn Cole

I went with romantasy for the next poll. I put ‘Spark Of The Everflame’ up against ‘The Stars Are Dying’, using fire, sword, and shooting star emojis for one and black moon, broken heart, and star emojis for the other. ‘The Stars Are Dying’ was initially in the lead, but ‘Spark Of The Everflame’ unexpectedly pulled ahead at the last minute.

25% Reading Update: To be frank, the first few chapters are crucial—they establish the world and flesh out the female lead’s backstory, so pay close attention. But I’m immediately captivated! I’m excited to see what happens next! The world’s amazing. I’m getting major Divine Rivals vibes from these godly descendants.

50% Reading Update: I’m completely hooked on this book; it’s going to be a five-star read for sure! The main character is a badass, and I’m loving the enemies-to-lovers thing that’s gonna happen for sure. In my opinion, this romantasy is incredibly easy to read. Despite its complex plot and extensive world-building, the book is incredibly fast-paced and easy to understand.

Final Thoughts (100%): I’m totally addicted! I have no words for how much I loved the story! Seriously, I wanna start the next book now. Although I know the next book in the series is quite long, I hope it will be as gripping and fast-paced as this one.

Book #3: First-Time Caller by B.K. Borison

Going into that last poll, I was rooting for a particular book. Spoiler, I didn’t read that book. For ‘First-Time Caller’, I used a clock, the number one, and a heart-eyes emoji. The emojis I used for ‘Funny Feelings’ were a sunflower, a laughing face, and a microphone (she’s a stand-up comedian). To my slight disappointment, ‘First-Time Caller’ surged ahead at the last moment.

25% Reading Update: I started this book with some hesitation, given my less-than-positive experience with the author’s previous novels. However, I thought the start was quite interesting. A single mother’s daughter phones a love radio show to assist her mom in finding love. Plus, the show’s host, the male lead, is cynical about love. It’s another dual POV book, and I’m loving both characters’ perspectives!

50% Reading Update: Two five-star reads consecutively—is that even possible? If not, I’m be breaking all the rules. I’m totally obsessed with the story and characters. I’m flying through this book and getting major Sleepless in Seattle vibes.

Final Thoughts (100%): A thoroughly enjoyable and unputdownable read. I loved the characters’ journeys and how it all wrapped up. And the romance? Totally swoon-worthy!
