It is tbr time again! I am very excited for this month of reading, since it is holiday themed. I wanted to keep my tbr short of sweet. I only have 4 books picked out for the month, which is plenty.

The end of the year is creeping up fast, which is insane. Lately, I have been looking at the fall and winter book releases. In this post, I am going to be sharing my most anticipated releases for the last half of 2021.
What Once Was Mine by Liz Braswell (September 7th)
Disney retellings always peak my interest. This one is about Rapunzel, which is awesome since Tangled is one of my favorite Disney princess movies.
As If on Cue by Marisa Kanter (September 21st)
YA enemies-to-lovers are some of the best books, so I hope this one doesn’t disappoint. Sadly, I haven’t had the best lucky with hate-to-love romances this year. However, I am not going to let that effect my opinion of this book.
Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber (September 28th)
This is the first book in a new fairy tale series by Garber. The book is described as a whimsical romance that shows the length people will go to for happily ever after. This book has been getting a lot of buzz in the book world, and for good reason. It sounds amazing!
Squad by Lisa Sterle, Maggie Tokuda-Hall (October 5th)
This book is marketed as a combination of Buffy, Mean Girls, Teen Wolf, and every other teen drama. In the book, Becca learns that her new friends are a group of werewolves. Now, if I were her I’d be freaking out.
The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox (October 5th)
I am obsessed with life swap stories. Whether the look-a-likes know each other or not. I cannot resist a good switch story. This one is about two sisters that trade places a few weeks before Christmas. It is going to be a messy romance, and I am here for it.
So, This Is Christmas by Tracy Andreen (October 5th)
This is a YA holiday book about a sixteen-year-old girl that returns home to her small town in Oklahoma. But, this Christmas everything seems to be different. Being a Christmas lover from Oklahoma, I cannot wait for this book.
Gilded by Marissa Meyer (November 2nd)
Another fairytale retelling that sounds incredible. This one is a reimaging of the Rumpelstiltskin story we have all come to know. I don’t know it is my love for the series ‘Once Upon A Time’, but Rumpelstiltskin is a character that has always intrigued me.
You’ve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao (November 2nd)
Should I just start crying now? I know this book is going to pull at my heartstrings. When a teenage girl’s boyfriend unexpectedly dies she’s heartbroken. But, she’s shocked when she calls his voicemail and he picks up. I’m not sure where the plots going to go, but I know it will be sad read.
You’ll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus (November 30th)
All I know is that this is a thriller inspired by ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.’ But I really don’t need to know anything else. One because I have been loving YA thrillers lately. Secondly, Karen M. McManus is one of my new favorite authors.
If This Gets Out by Cale Dietrich, Sophie Gonzales (December 7th)
I think this book is going to be swoon-worthy. It is a queer YA romance about to band member, Ruben and Zach, that start a romance. It sounds like there might be a lot of drama, but a cute relationship as well.
The Big Reveal by Jen Larsen (December 7th)
A young adult novel about a girl that gets accepted into her dream dance academy. In order to raise money to attend the school, she puts on an invite-only burlesque show. The book touches on topics such slut-and body-shaming.This is for sure going to be a lighthearted, but powerful contemporary.
How Not to Fall in Love by Jacqueline Firkins (December 21st)
I am counting down the days to the release of this YA contemporary. The story follows a pessimistic girl with a hard time believing in true love. Her hopeless romantic best friend enlist her help, so he doesn’t need up getting heartbroken for millionth time. But, of course a romance is bound to develop, and it will be delightful.

In July, I wanted to participate in a readathon. But I didn’t think I would be doing two in one month, but I’m not mad about it. First up, I will be doing the Summerween, which takes place from July 2 – July 8. I have been wanting to read my horror/thriller books, making this readathon the perfect choice. I have picked out one book that fills all the promotes, but I do have another book that I can read if I did up having the time.
Challenges:
1) Bake or make a drink with your spooky read
2) Read a book in the dark
3) Read a paranormal book
4) Read a horror book
5) Read a book with black or orange on the cover (or both)
I was going to pick Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake, since it’s a paranormal horror story. 
But the audiobook won’t be available at my library until four weeks. Instead, I found a graphic novel that easily fulfills all the promotes. Something is Killing the Children, Vol. 1 by James Tynion IV, Werther Dell’Edera, and Miquel Muerto is a horror and paranormal story about missing children, monsters and a monster hunter. I heard that it is compared to Netflix’s Stranger Things, which I haven’t seen, but I know it is popular. I don’t know if the this book has enough Halloween colors on the cover, but the authors names are in orange, so I’m counting it.
The second readathon I will be doing is the Buddy Readathon. Joining this readathon was a very last-minute decision. I have been wanting to meet others in the book community, and this seemed like the perfect way to do so. If you’re interested in participating in the Buddy Readathon, please watch the announcement video. For the readathon, I was paired with Jazz! We got together and decided that we would try to get a bingo, and read one of the group books. Below are the prompts and books we will be reading.

I already have a lot of required reading for the month, yet I’m adding more books to my July tbr. I am a big supporter of Christmas in July, so I have to try and fit in a Christmas read.

Let’s face it, most Hallmark movies have some cheesy and predictability factors. But, this one was a sweet Christmas movie, where the romance takes a backseat. This movie feature is a workaholic character, like many Hallmark movies do, that never makes time for romance but discovers that you can always make time for the things that are important, especially love. I enjoyed the character tremendously, and thought that all the actors had great chemistry.
Most of the time, we get workaholics that are cold and uptight. But this movie takes a new approach to the stereotype, which was refreshing. She loved her job and was willing to skip Christmas with her family for work. Still, she loved the holiday, and missed her loved ones dearly. It was nice that her love interest wasn’t some unfeeling jerk coming to take over her job. He was a genuine guy, doing a favor for his mom and trying to show that Christmas traditions are important.
I will say that as the producer of the Christmas special who has been working at the company for five years, they should have had a little more faith in her ability to put on a good show. On the flip side, I understand that most of us trust our families opinions more than other people. I loved the plot of reuniting the brother to surprise their mom, live on TV. It was a wholesome idea that showed how spending the holiday with family is all that matters. I did find the fact that they were known as the “Three Wise Men” a little silly and too on-the-nose Christmas for me.
I thought the brothers interacted well together, and you could get a feel of their different personalities. Even though the movie was only an hour and a half long, the love story wasn’t rushed. They fell for each other naturally, despite their contrasting personalities. The plot was fun and creative, while still being a typical Hallmark movie. I don’t think this movie is super original, but it is one I would watch again.
